Spicy Herbed Wild Salmon

 

Salmon is one of those feel good foods that tastes delicious while knowing you’re doing such an amazing deed for your body and health. It is rich in omega 3 fatty acids that are essential in our diet for optimal function. It’s also packed with protein (17 grams per 3 ounces, which about the size of your palm of your hand). 

Some studies have even shown that being a pescetarian (fish being the only animal product consumed) along with a plant based diet is even healthier than being a vegetarian! Fatty fish such as salmon again provide an excellent source of the omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA which may be the reason pescetarians prove to top the vegetarians in the healthy rating scale.

Salmon is such an easy lunch over greens to keep you satisfied throughout the day, and this is such a healthy and energizing go-to meal whether you whip it up at home or if you bring it to work.  I love making a few filets in advance so I can enjoy it again for lunch or dinner in the days ahead. If you’re not a fan of a little heat in foods you can definitely modify it to your liking!

Spicy Herbed Wild Salmon

Serves 1

Ingredients:

-4 oz. frozen skinless wild salmon, thawed
-1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
-2 garlic cloves
-1 tbsp. fresh or dried oregano
-1 tbsp. fresh or dried basil
-1/2 tsp. chili powder
-1/4 tsp. turmeric
-1/2 tsp. garlic powder
-1/4 tsp. paprika
-1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
-a sprinkle of pepper

Method: Heat up the oil in a small to medium sized sauté pan. At Medium-high heat, add the salmon, and add all of the spices on top. Grill for about 6 minutes,until there are thick edges of white on the sides of the fish.  Flip, and grill for another 5-6 minutes. Enjoy over some greens with feta cheese, lemon juice, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
